2.1. Licensing
IQcad Basic is always on. Pro, Civil, Point Cloud and Drone turn on only when the license key grants them. A drawing still opens and saves every object when a module is off. The commands of that module do not run, and its menu and ribbon tab are hidden.
2.1.1. License Manager
Help > About, on the License & Modules tab, shows each module and whether it is on. Help > License… opens the License Manager, where you enter a key.
The manager shows the status, who the license is issued to, the version, how many machines the key allows, the expiry, and the machine id. Each module is marked on or not licensed. IQcad Basic stays marked on without a key.
The status is one of:
Basic — no key is active. Only IQcad Basic runs.
Trial — a trial is running. The line shows how many days remain.
Activated — a key is active on this machine. A key with no end date is shown as a perpetual license.
Expired — the key or the trial has ended. The paid modules turn off.
Grace period exceeded — the key was not checked with the activation server inside its offline window. Only IQcad Basic stays on.
Cryptography unavailable — the license libraries did not start. Reinstall IQcad, or contact support.
Paste the serial key and click Activate. The server address is already filled in. Leave it unless support gives you another one. Update License checks the key with the server again. Deactivate removes the license from this machine. You confirm that step before it runs.
IQcad warns at startup when a license or a trial ends within 30 days. A perpetual key, and a Basic session with no key, do not warn.
An activated key keeps working without a network connection. The offline window is the one stored in the key. When the key does not set one, IQcad uses 30 days from the last successful check. After that, connect to the internet and click Update License. Until the check succeeds, only IQcad Basic stays on.
Typing a command from a module that is off prints a line on the command line: the module is not licensed, and Help > License is where you enter a key. A menu item for that module shows the same message.
These parts of the window follow the license:
Super Tools menu and ribbon tab, Extrude, Sweep, the 3D tools button, the Scripting pane, Blade Runner and Plugin Manager — IQcad Pro.
Civil menu, Civil ribbon tab and the Civil Toolspace — IQcad Civil.
Point Cloud menu and ribbon tab — IQcad Point Cloud.
Drone menu and ribbon tab — IQcad Drone.
Map background — IQcad Pro or IQcad Civil. Either module is enough.
2.1.2. Updates
Help > Check for Updates… looks for a newer IQcad. The same check runs once after startup. It stays quiet when this version is current, or when the update server cannot be reached. Use the menu to see that error.
IQcad asks before it downloads. The file is kept only when it matches the signed manifest. The download is one archive of the program folder. The program file is at the root of the archive. The same archive updates an installed copy and an unpacked folder.
On confirm, IQcad closes. A helper waits until the program has left, extracts the archive into the folder that contained the program, asks the system for permission when that folder is protected, and then starts IQcad again. Settings stay where they are.
The running version is the four-part version in Help > About.
2.1.3. Modules
