Import a LandXML file

3 Nov 2026 · Alignments

Open LandXML 1.1 or 1.2 and choose which points, alignments, surfaces and parcels come into the drawing.

File › Import LandXML… reads LandXML 1.1 and 1.2. IQcad detects the version from the xmlns attribute. Northing in the file becomes Y in the drawing, and Easting becomes X.

What the dialog lists

The dialog shows the elements it found, with a count, and a layer for the ones that have geometry:

  1. Choose File › Import LandXML… and select the .xml file.
  2. Tick only the rows you want. A count of (0) means that element is not in the file.
  3. Click Import.
  • CgPoints — survey points, keeping number, name, northing, easting, elevation and description.
  • Alignments — polylines. Arc elements are tessellated to line segments.
  • Surfaces — points, 3D faces, or both. The two ticks are independent. A native surface also restores boundaries and breaklines stored in the file.
  • Parcels — closed polylines, with boundary curves tessellated.

If the file carries an IQcadPointGroups feature, point groups are recreated after the CgPoints load.

Check an imported alignment

An alignment from this dialog is a polyline, not a PI alignment with spirals and a vertical profile. To see the ground along it:

  1. Run QUICKPROFILE (alias QP).
  2. If the drawing has more than one surface, type the surface name or click it.
  3. Click the imported polyline.

That samples the surface along the polyline and places a profile view beside it.

ALM files, and Greek PSIMO files (.S01), go through the Import button in the alignment editor (Civil › Alignment › Edit Alignment PIs…), not through this dialog. When that import finds a vertical profile, the editor offers to create a profile view.
